Youth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid.

Developed by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people this informative and strengths-based course will teach you how to assist Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional support is received or the crisis resolves, using practical, evidence-based action plan.

Presenter: Deon Bird

Deon is a husband, father of four, proud Aboriginal man, ex-footy rugby league player, wanna-be podcaster & a Mens Mental Health Advocate. He was fortunate to play professional Rugby League for 11 years between 1996 & 2006, both in the NRL and the English Super League and when he thinks back, he  thought he was put on this earth to play footy.

However, after retiring he fell into Indigenous mentoring and quickly realised he was truly meant to do, and that was support young Indigenous men and women. Fast forward 11 years and he is still fortunate to be working in this sector but this has been taken to another level, as he has developed a passion for mental health and in particular the mental health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
